Our Journey, Our Community, Our Mural

In 2017, the Neves family proudly purchased Torreense Store. Today, it remains a true family affair—our daughters and son are a part of everyday tasks, and you will occasionally see our parents helping out around the market, too.

We did not build this alone. We have been blessed by the support of very special people, including Sr. João—the third-generation owner before us—and others who continue to cheer us on and want to see this market thrive and are proud to be part of the journey. This is a community built on love and pride. Every single day, we appreciate everyone who has worked alongside our family with the same shared mission: to keep our rich Portuguese heritage alive.

Serving Everyone Who Loves Good Food

Our walls cross borders. We proudly serve the Portuguese community as far away as Edmonton, as well as the children and friends of Portuguese families. We are here for the neighborhood kids picking up fresh buns for mom and dad, recent travelers looking to keep that magical Portuguese feeling alive, and all the diverse cultural communities in our region who simply want authentic, wholesome, and darn good food.

A Visual Thank You to the Waterloo Region

To celebrate these decades of support and to beautify the neighborhood we love, we commissioned a stunning mural in 2019. Brought to life by talented local artist Stephanie Boutari with the wonderful support of the Waterloo Region, the artwork features vibrant, joyful colors. Look closely, and you will see it is inspired by our family owners and the very items we carry on our shelves.

The mural reflects the fabric of our people’s history—a history defined by our heritage as explorers and a legacy of pure happiness. It is our love letter back to you.

Thank you for being a part of the Torreense family!
